Why then do I feel so much more sadness over what is happening in Ukraine? Shouldn't I put this recent invasion into an "oh well" perspective like the others?
Another straw breaking another camel's back comes to mind. I am simply fed up with assholes, autocrats, despots, dictators, and religious zealots. Not a one of them are doing anything positive for the planet or the human race.
I do have a friend living in Ukraine. He is a Canadian who has lived there a long time. We hooked up online I guess 15 years ago or so. He and his family are in my thoughts more now than ever before. That connection to the chaos might explain how awful I feel right now. But I don't think that is the whole story.
After almost 70 years on this planet, I have finally run out of patience for the evil stupidity humans foist upon other humans. Putin's insistence on ravaging another country to ease his angst over losing the good ole days has touched one of my last raw nerves. And once again I have to deal with sitting on the sidelines and wringing my hands.
It seems like this century is going to suck no matter what we do. Its been one horror show after another for twenty two straight years now. You'd think we would be tired of all the pain and anguish, death and destruction; and especially tired of assholes like Vladimir Putin.
But no. Humans are not done screwing each other for no good reason at all. Humanity appears to be in the throes of a seriously dangerous readjustment period and there are only three choices open to those folks experiencing the horror of killers at their door.
Run, Fight, or Die.
An Infuriating After Note
A Russian diplomat was interviewed yesterday or today. With a straight face she pleaded with the population of Ukraine to put down their arms. It will make it so much easier on them in the long run. After all, Russians are there to help save them.
Apparently the Ukrainians are not interested in the kind of "saving" Russia has in mind for them. Ukraine has embraced the sentiments of Dylan Thomas, and will not go gently into the good night. Instead they seem intent on raging against the dying of the light.

I worry about our Canadian friend, too. I underestimated the extent of Putin's craziness.
Nan - I think not only did the World underestimate his lunacy, so did many of his insiders and cronies. More interesting and terrify times ahead.

As far as I heard -- they have plans of Building Million-Citizen Towns... in tundra.
Easy to see, for whom.
Apart from usual things that oppressive and occupation regimes have for those nation which lost in war.
I worry about Allen ,Tanya and their kids..the life they are living could be destroyed so easily by that madman. makes me crazy. I swear I don't sleep more than 3 hours a night worrying about them. the worse it gets the less sleep I get. been up all night watching different news.. sigh****
One from Ukraine - It is damn hard to say anything optimistic at this point other than the respect I have for the fight Ukraine is handing Russia has sky rocketed out of sight. No matter how this turns out in the short term, Ukraine's legacy will stand tall forever in my mind.
yellowdoggranny - I also am worried about Allen and his family. It is difficult concentrating on anything for long. The best thing we can do I think is to not fall apart.
War is the human condition. Has always been and will always be.

Ol'Buzzard - If we a destined to include war in our condition forever, I forever ending sooner than later.

Thank you for your kind words.
About optimism -- I do monitor RFia's news -- drastical changes from first couple days:
no Putin's screeds AT ALL, while he was so-o-o frantic in first couple days when it looked to him like imminent victory,
tone of propaganda lowered to ordinary levels -- from "imminent victory, don't switch the channel" to "yeah, there's something happening in Ukraine, but... let's talk about butterflyes"
on the contrary -- lots of talks about how we'd fix our economy :)
most rediculously funny is "reports from the frontlines", where they for 3rd or 4th day citing SAME towns and villages taken,
and claim that as "victorious step by step subjugation of Ukraine"
Ordinary nastiness -- when they shelling OUR towns, and claim that we ourself doing it... and their diplomats lying about it non-stop in UN security board and... just everywhere, where they can push it through.
Well, today that is battle of psychologies -- Putin try to scare Ukrainians with terror: bombing schools, kindergardens and hospitals (with newborns especially) -- THE SAME he do in Syria.
To push our higherups to admit defeat and agree on splitting and partial occupation (same as with Crimea and Donbas).
But times changed.
There's new site -- http://war.ukraine.ua
With war crimes of RFia against Ukraine
