So Ray, of that wonderful Yooper couple, Ray and Nan, informed me he is currently trying out Linux instead of his old computer's original operating system. I am jealous. The first time I heard of Linux, I was enthralled. Just figured it would be too tough for a lazy dumass like me to deal with. And it may be. We'll see.
It is not that Linux is free. It is that rumor I have read that it is less likely to suck up viruses, malware, and streaming monsters. Cheap and reliable in my opinion is the mark of a great tool.
So here I am on Day 1. I have signed up. I have read my first tutorial. And now like I have actually accomplished something, I am bragging about having done nothing more than what amounts to stepping onto the treadmill and admired it without turning it on.
I will keep you posted ....................

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS. I downloaded it to a flashdrive, tried it out from the flashdrive and then installed. I thought maybe Linux would work better with our shitty intratube connection and I guess there is less problems with viruses as most of them are for Windows.
It does seem to keep connected better, if it drops out it comes right back. With Windows I would have to disconnect from the router and reconnect.
Besides original Linux kernel was made by a guy in Finland.
I have occasionally gotten the Linux bug too.... but the idea of leaning another OS’s “dialect” just tires me out and I go back to what is easier. Sad to say, but true. I tried longest in trying to use GIMP (photo editor)... and that too went by the wayside for me.

Linux is fine for those who do not “need” programs that are only available in a MS Windows compatible format. If your basic need is web applications and email, you should be fine.
I can't even recall last time I heard the word linux
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Kulkiri - So you did what I am planning to do. And I know that Finland connection is important to you.
Eläkää suomalaisia
Pipe Tobacco - Yeah, the notion of learning a new operating system seems pretty silly. But it is something to do to keep my brain engaged in something other than hating Wingers 24/7. Also MS has way too much power. Screw them.
J Lochary - Just doing it for the Helluva it. Not going to dump MS necessarily, but will in a heartbeat if Linux works out for me. Hate MS and the stranglehold they have on the computing world.
peppylady - I t is something of a rarity among the general population of computer users.
Ol'Buzzard - Not a case of being broke. And I won't toss my Windows system. Just want to see if the grass is indeed greener on the other side.
Informative blog. Linux is a family of open source Unix like operating systems based on the Linux kernel. Here you have discussed how this Linux will help to operate the computer system. Thanks for sharing. Along with this article, I would like to share about the hamster pets which were established as popular small house pets.
This upper that is "tricky" spam message, hope you know about such things and do not go by that link they notoriously insert into every such post.
That link can be harmful.
As for Linux, I would like to know about your experience with it.
Well, Kulkuri in the very first comment provided most simple way of using it. Yes, if you have a flash-drive, or tumb-drive to spare (don't know which variant is more correct). There is lots of so-called "driveless" Linuxes, means it do not need installation on your drive as Win do. And there is lots of utils that would make that flash-drive bootable for you in user-friendliest way (though true-linuxoid would do it with commandline "magic words")
And especially convinient if you have some older unused computer or some notebook... you can do it most freely and without risk to broke something.
But... that is only beginning. And further road goes downhill. Into tarpit of certain type of computer nerdiness... not for just anyone. :-)
