Free Range Time Keeping

I have become used to the government and their tendency to fool around with the money I send them every year.  They often pretend to give it back, calling it a tax cut.  That never lasts because while they are thinking of ways to give it back, they are always considering more ways to take it away.  It is as if they had this big balloon filled with air.  Someone ensconced well within the gulliwots of the government belly decides the citizenry could use some of that air.  They tap the balloon and let some of it out, which in theory should give all us a little more room to breathe.  But we all know the government does not enjoy working with an under inflated balloon, so on the other side of the balloon, they plug in a pump to suck most, if not more of that previously released air back into the balloon.

I have become used to this cycle, this continual picking of my pocket through one door or another.  What galls me though is some bright bulb in the bureaucratic carnival back in the day thought, "Oh, we should treat Time the same way."  We'll take an hour here, give an hour there, and every four years just to make it seem we are giving them something for nothing, we'll add a day to the calendar.   It is as if the Concept of Time was not convoluted enough to satisfy the bureaucracy's insidious addiction to make everything more complicated than it needs to be.  And in the meantime, one day is not much different than the one previous and most likely won't be much different than the one coming.

I've heard the arguments that moving the hands on the clock every so often is a much needed process as it helps this facet or that facet of our society, our economy, blah, blah, blah.  I say Bullshit.  They do it because they can.  They do it because they are evil. people with a nasty sense of humor.  No matter which way the hands of the clock go, back or forth, it takes me a good three weeks before I get my body and mind back into sync with the rest of the World.

In protest, many years ago I created CRUM Time.  I have mentioned it before, but I will now mention it again.  CRUM Time is my own personal, nobody else's time zone.  I run it as I see fit.  Sometimes it is in sync, but most days it is not.  I will change the hands of the clock if the mood suits me.  Or I will keep them where they are.  Call it Free Range time keeping.  Once I average out my previous recent schedules, it seems I always run about 15 minutes behind the rest of the planet.  And it never matters where I have set the hands of my clock.

So I hear the government wants us to push our clocks up an hour this weekend.  And somehow this means people will lose an hour's worth of sleep?  Or they will have one less hour to use, like that hour has been plucked and tossed away?  Bullshit.  We don't lose anything now, just like we don't gain anything in the Fall.  They are just changing the schedule to keep us off balance.  Well, I have CRUM Time and that keeps me balanced.

Later..............Or maybe I should say 15 minutes later than later........

I think the American government should legislate a metric clock with 10 hours in a day and 100 minutes in an hour and 100 seconds in a minute.
Since your system of weights and measures doesn't match the rest of the world, you could "modernize" timekeeping and be out of step in everything.

I like the old Native American saying, "Only a white man would think that if you cut a foot off one end of a blanket and sew it on the other end, you make the blanket longer!!!"

When my wife and I moved into our first Indian village in Alaska the Chief told us that they would be holding a potlatch that evening to welcome the new teachers. I asked him what time should we arrive and he just looked at me with an incredulous stare. We learned later that the villages run on Indian time, things happen when they happen.
Now that I am retired, I run on Indian time.

I believe they used to call Crum time Indian time. No clocks at all. It used to bug the crap out of me when digital watches became the rave and if you asked someone the time the answer would be something like eight forty three, instead of the time honored quarter to nine. Why do they always have to muck around with things?
