Moments of mass sadness have started to come back to back to back, hardly giving me the time to comfortably assimilate and deal with the sad event that came before. As Nasreen Iqbal said in the comment section of my post about the Dallas shooting, it was not just a bad week in the US, it was a bad week in many parts of the planet. Those bad weeks are coming one after the other. The World is getting no break from the reports of deaths for no tangible reason other than to kill as many whoevers they can.
She is right of course. The planet seems locked into a negative rhythm these past 10 years, with each new year yielding an escalation of misery on a growing number of regional populations. There are more displaced persons on the planet at this time than have ever been recorded before. According to BBC News, there are up to 60 million people forced out of their homes and into the begrudging hands of countries ill equipped to handle the huge influx.
My mind cramps when I try to appreciate all the various reasons folks are forced from their homes. My mind cramps when I try to understand reasons some groups have for killing people not directly involved in their struggle. And the fact that the horror of mass deaths are now coming right on top of each other, I have come close to shutting down my empathy and going numb.
Nice, France ..............................
I just do not know what to say. Words cannot convey the ache I feel for the senseless carnage one sick individual was able to create by simply driving into a crowd. Helpless comes to mind. Angry as Hell is right up front also. What can an average citizen do to fight the assholes who want us dead?
The only thing I can come up with is .......... I refuse to give them my fear.

Violence toward other human beings is a part of our nature only now we are seeing it play out in our own back yards in such a way that it could effect us personally. Let's not forget that on July 16 1945 the US exploded its first atomic bomb, then less than a month later, in August of 1945 we, the USA, dropped two nuclear bombs on civilian populations killing a quarter of a million civilians - men, women, children, and no birds sang.
ISIS and terrorist attacks on civilians are shocking to watch on TV; but this is who we are as a race - there is nothing new, except now we get to see it in real time on TV.
the Ol'Buzzard
and I say again...........we're fucked.
Brings to mind the ancient Chinese curse, May you live in interesting times!!
But the good guys won in Turkey.... The good guys in this case being an increasingly theocratic and dictatorial elected leader who has rounded up 6,000 people he claims were involved with the coup and will likely kill them all.
you are a good human being and I am glad I found your blog. peace...
About ten years ago I started saying that things where going to get worse if folks didn't start changing and it looks like I was right. Now I'm ten years older and resigned to the fact that things will get worse and there is nothing I can do about it so I just live my own life the best I can. And go fishing while I still can, everything else is just a slide show.
It is truly overwhelming, isn't it? We are self destructing on every level. Maybe when we are all gone, the planet can start over again.
Ol'Buzzard - "ISIS and terrorist attacks on civilians are shocking to watch on TV; but this is who we are as a race - there is nothing new, ....."
As you say, this is who we are as a race. It is is sad that over the last 40,000 years, while we have steadily improved our technologies, we have not improved our relationships with each other.
JACKIESUE - I hope you are wrong.
Kulkiri - The planet is full up with "interesting times".
Naasreen Iqbal - There are no "Good Guys" in geopolitics. There is strategic self interest that shoves ethics and morals to the side.
mohaverat - thank you. Same back right atcha.
BBC - Yeah, you have been on the "we're screwed" train since I first spotted you. About all we can do I think is emulate what you are doing. Live our lives as well and honorably as we can and hope things work out.
The Blog Fodder - The planet will not even notice we are gone.
when the watering hole gets smaller, the animals get meaner.
