Most days I will listen to music and not really connect with it. Oh I hear it and enjoy it, but it does not hit that pleasure center deep inside. Once in awhile and occasionally, the moment and the music mesh perfectly. Right now is one of those moments.
As I have for the last month or so, I woke up at 2:30 AM and began my day. I would prefer to start my day around 5:00 AM or so, but well, if my body says it's time to wake up, I don't fight it anymore. Sleep is way overrated anyway.
Put a pot of coffee on. Went outside while it brewed and communed a moment or two with the pre dawn dark. Heard something stirring in the pucker across the road. Noticed the three day rain had finally stopped. Went back inside and poured a cup from that fresh pot of coffee.
Came in the office and punched up "Deja Vu", Crosby Stills, Nash, & Young's second album. When “Helpless” came on, one of those rare perfect moments happened. The song, my mood, the quiet of a house still asleep – all came together to create a moment of serenity for me. I forgot for a moment the baggage I insist on dragging around with me day in day out. I forgot the pains I wake up with every morning. All negative wavelengths were suspended for the forty minutes it took to play the album. Damn, I love those moments.
I had hopes I could stretch this special moment by punching up the predecessor band to CSN&Y, Buffalo Springfield.
Bummer Dude.
In the click of a mouse, that special moment passed. No Buffalo Springfield was embedded on the hard drive yet. I had the CDs. For some reason I had neglected to rip it to my library. Nothing shoots that special moment in the butt quicker than unrequited craving. So I fed the critters.
Back in the office, I found the Buffalo Springfield CD and ripped it into my puter. A couple of songs into "Last Time Around", something even more special than a single special moment happened. I ended up with a second special moment in a row. Twice in less than two hours, music and moment tied together to save me a little longer from facing my day. A very rare two fer dropped in.
Memories from back in the day floated in, floated out. Images of freaks shoulder to shoulder facing down soldiers with guns. The words "Almost Cut My Hair" blasted through and for a time I was once again young, numb, and full of cum.

I have never been really in the proper age group as far as music is concerned. When my high school friends during the 80's were listening to the heavy metal stuff I was stuck in the 60's. It still affects me now with my kids.
I was listening to CCR the other day deep into a similar state of mind as the one you wrote about and was viciously busted on by my son as being a hopeless dinosaur.
Just out of spite I grounded the little turd and made him listen to CCR while washing and cleaning out both cars.
Funny how music brings back memories. Every time I hear "Proud Mary" I get a craving for a greasy hamburger because it seemed like that song was playing a lot when I would go to the BX cafeteria on base.
Those are long faded memories. I barely remember the album covers but probably would recall the songs if I heard them again.
Can't listen to CCR any more. We were doing a job some years back. Inside a containment doing a ceiling scrape with a tape player and the only tape the guy had was CCR. After two weeks of that ... well.
Ah, those moments. I know exactly what you're talking about, and you're very lucky to have had two in such close proximity. Everything has to be set up right, time, place, state of mind, light and shade, colors. Magical stuff, the opposite of Muzak.
Mmmmm, I love those moments. :)
They are the best.
((hugs))

I had a similar experience the other day...driving (1 and 1/2 hours) to my folks house and grew tired of the radio..=the only CD in the car was the Smiths...wow! The louder the better. Walls of sound!
MrMaCrum:
I can understand the Perfect Music concept very well. It is rare. I have experienced it on occasion with the following:
Simon & Garfunkel
CSN&Y
America
and then with certain groups with specific albums:
Beatles - Revolver
Carole King - Tapestry
Mama's & Papa's - California Dreaming.
That shiver up your spine, that way in which the music is both the background and the backdrop for what you are doing, it is indeed rare and beautiful.
