I Am Becoming BBC

BBC is an internet visitor who stops by my blog to give his opinion on well, whatever happens to be on his mind at the time.  BBC is a no bullshit, in your face, screw you if you don't like what I say kinda guy.  He often steps over the various lines of decorum many of us bloggers have set up for our personal blogs.  He has overstepped several times on mine.  BBC is not welcome in many places.  But he is welcome here.  I may not agree with him on something, and he may piss me off from time to time, but I do admire his blunt and honest way of saying what is on his mind.  Though I often cringe when I read it.

When I first began my travels through the byways and highways of the World Wide Web back in the 1990s, I was thrilled at the possibilities of the Internet.  Some of my visions of what it could be are coming to fruition, but sadly, most are not.  Instead of bringing this clown planet together, it seems all the Internet has done is fill the worldwide conversation with overwhelming doses of hate and discontent.  People would rather draw lines in the sand than try to erase them.  And from the first day I ran into BBC he was sure that the horde of humanity that takes up space on this rock were nothing but a horde of assholes, or "monkeys" as he called them.

I argued with him some.  I ignored him some.  Slowly, his low opinion of humans began to take hold.  His comment on my "Monday Morning" post yesterday combined with my stupid decision to once again try to find sane and reasonable conversation on a new political forum has pushed me over the edge.

His comment:

"I don’t like what America is now but I can’t change it so fuck it, I’ll just kick back and ease along the best I can."

I have to agree and maybe taking his advice would be wise.

I don't recall you asking me if you could use my profile picture, not that I mind. But in truth, Laurel Ann took that picture back in about 2000, maybe I should change it to a more current one.

Think I'll have another beer before turning in.

Hey, how has the bike shop done this year?

The key to wisdom is knowing that shit is fucked up.

BBC said...

Shit is fucked up and we can't fix it, but I can enjoy a free Thanksgiving dinner Helen and I are going to at noon.

Wisdom includes figuring out that we can't fix fucked up shit and political blogs and forums are a waste of time and effort.

Mr Charleston - Oh, I dunno. We were a bunch of contentious jerks before the turn of the century, but we managed to bury the hatchet somewhat and move on. Now it seems the hatchet is only being buried in each other, screw what it does to the country.

BBC - I did indeed use your photo w/o your permission. I am sorry for that, but well, I figure it is easier to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission. Unless of course you have an army of lawyers waiting with bated breath to go after me. And then I guess I'm screwed.

Randal Graves - There is no key to wisdom. If there was, Walmart would have it for sale at their guaranteed lowest price.

I got some wisdom at Walmart, gun powder, primers.

When I found BBCs blog I liked it right away.
He posts crass shit at times. I'm not bothered by it. Getting one's panties in a wad over certain words, phrases, subjects, etc. does not compute for me. Being "offended" is a weakness of spirit. Being offended is something one does to ones self. If you are offended you have no one to blame but yourself. PERIOD.

BBC comments on my blog regularly. Sometimes I think he throws out shit to see if someone will rise to the bait. Kinda like fishing.

BBC said...

No, I'm not baiting, just being true to myself and stating my opinions.

"Won't be here in 20 years"

Pshaw, Billy, you're too cantankerous to die before you hit at least 100.

IMHO, every generation thinks the world is going to hell in the proverbial handbasket -- the complaint "We live in a decaying age. Young people no longer respect their parents. They are rude and impatient. They frequently inhabit taverns and have no self control" was supposedly found inscribed in an Eqyptian tomb dating back to about 1500 BCE. Do not judge the world as a whole by the idiocy found in some of the darker corners of the intertubes.

On the other hand, one of the few benefits of aging is a person is allowed to be bluntly honest and tell people they're being fucktards or asshats without worrying about it much. After all, everyone knows old people are cranky as hell.

BBC said...

Actually, I did not view the world as going to hell until the last ten years, now I'm aware that we are actually in danger of destroying humanity. Of course awareness is a pain in the butt, at least beer tempers it.

S thinks the world is going to hell and she's only in her 40's.

BBC - You know what? You are a pain in the ass. Can't you put it all in one comment? Shit. But I guess that's part of your charm.

S - I subscribe to your notion of offending people also. But I also can understand when folks have had enough. The trick I think is to set the personal boundaries and then move along little doggie.

Kulkiri - Ya Think? BBC is one of the best trollers I have ever run into.

Nan - If I am honest with myself, I know the planet probably has a few thousand millenniums left. My only question is will humanity be part of it. Some days I am not so sure. But as you say, this is the same generational crap that has been going on forever. When I was young I was positive old folks had their head up their ass and I was right then. Now that I am considered a card carrying old codger, I am sure young folks are packin their noggins where the Sun don't shine. And I am right now also. Of course I am.

i called him an ass hole once for a comment he left on Yellow Dog Grannies Blog - but of course he doesn't give a fuck, but neither do I. Gotta say his comments are sometimes right on.

I don't see how I can put it into one comment when I'm replying to others comments that are left when they visit.

You are right of course, I do at times leave a lot of comments on some posts, comment whore that I am. :-)

I finally got to ride in the State of Maine. Took a short, but hilly spin from Freeport to Brunswick. Not a bad day after thanksgiving ride.

I may do a longer ride tomorrow, Saturday, if the weather cooperates. It's a pretty neat place to ride.

have joined your blog. BBC is a hoot of a coot! One of my favorite places to go for an occasional taste of reality. Glad I found your blog. I thought there would be a language barrier but so far I understand you just fine. the rat

Just found this email.

I became friends with Billy on my blog too. Ended up closing it because of stalkers. Haven't gotten around to starting another one.

But here is my opinion on what you were saying about the internet.

The internet offers anonymity which makes it easy for those that have the tendency to be a jerk to be a jerk or worse. Trolls.

But it also offers opportunities for folks to do a lot of good.

It's all in how you perceive it and what you choose to do with it.

But that's most everything.

Agree or not. It's all good. It's just my opinion.

Happy Day
