I have spent more time lately perusing blogs. Not more time than I have ever before. But more time than I have in recent months. And certainly more time spent than I should be spending given the overloaded work situation at the bike shop and at home.
Writer's blogs, Mommy blogs, political blogs, and everything in between. Blogs that defy definition or fail to sit comfortably in their niche. Raging crazy blogs and put me to sleep blogs. Blogdom is indeed just another community of dissimilar souls all adding their unique spin on what is going on in the World.
I have long ago stopped worrying about what non-bloggers think about blogging. I have become used to the ribbing and being held up to ridicule by those who are too cool to blog. Everyone needs someone to look down on. For some I fill that need. I am glad to be of service as long as it doesn't cost me anything. Their derision comes free of charge, so I am happy to make their day.
Many bloggers will share almost anything about themselves. I know I have spilled things I would not bring up in the normal conversations that pass through my day. I have read personal things of others that make me uncomfortable yet help me in my search for my own center. By sharing our thoughts, no matter how mundane or trivial, we create for ourselves an outlet for the stressful garbage that clutters our lives. When I vent and rant I always feel better after. When I read of someone else having trouble, I know there are kindred spirits out there who suffer, laugh, and live Life much the same way I do. And that makes me a happier person.
That is why I blog. Simple as that.

Oddly enough, that's why I blog too.
Doc
I've been out of the race for a couple of weeks, Mike, and it's good to be back. I don't know why I blog really. I enjoy writing and someone told me its a good idea so I went with it. I really want to be a writer so if it happens...it happens. If not, well I'll still put my stories up and I'll still have the occasional rant. Like you say, it's a release sometimes and for me, it's introduced me to some great "online friends" like yourself, who write some great stories and who keep us up to date with stuff across the mighty pond.
I'll get round to reading your latest for FFF as soon as I can.
Regards mate.
I am a blogger and like you blogging help me feel better too. For me, blogging is the most effective shrink. It keeps my sanity intact that is why I blog.
Blogging is much like fishing. You throw out the bait (the post) and wait for the fish (the comments). What surprises me is what draws in the most fish. Some afterthought that comes in either a fit of rage or some silly passing thought whim.
I haven't been a very good blogger over the past year or so, unless one counts two posts a month as "blogging". But I enjoy it - just don't have the kind of time I'd like to have to dedicate to writing. But it's a great way to connect with other folks from the many hidden corners of the world. That's why I blog - er, that's why I occasionally throw something onto the space that used to be properly called a blog.
My life has been seriously enriched by blogging. I have stumbled upon like-minded souls from the Arctic to New Zealand. It's made this insane world a little bit smaller and much kinder for me.
The vagaries of humanity. Demeur hit on that a bit. 30-second posts get all kinds of reaction, effort gets next to nil. As with everything, it's what hits us at that particular confluence of time, environment and emotion.
Many bloggers will share almost anything about themselves.
That would be me, but I do the same in real life also. I'm me, I expect others to take me the way I am and they do around here.
For the most part, those that don't can avoid me, there's room for all of us.
I started blogging because I was pissed off at a world that believes in some idiot god out there. That's what my first posts on my first blog were all about.
Those posts are still there and still visited at times.
Blogging is a great tool to sort and organize thoughts, especially about an emotionally charged situation. And I was delighted to find so many people with such a keen eye for what's going on around them and the tools to tell the story.
My blogging has slowed down as of late, but I hope to pump up the volume, as it were.
I'm just glad you do blog, MRMacrum
So very nicely said. This is why I blog as well.
I blog because I enjoy writing. Sounds cliche, but true.
