John Prine

There are no words I can convey
There is no more sadness I can share
There were no more songs that touched me
As deeply as his did. RIP.

   <----------------------------->

I only caught John Prine once.  It was in a Dallas Honky Tonk and I was between driving tours for SHOWCO in 1977 I think.  Good whiskey and his music was a night I remember to this day.

This is how I remember him then.

A couple of favorites - Enjoy

Woke up this morning to this news. Wished I'd stayed asleep. I came late to be a John Prine fan but have tried to make up for it.

The Blog Fodder - Its been 12 hours since I read the news. I cannot stop thinking about him. I think this lock down is finally showing some of my cracks.

I saw him once in the mid 90s at NPR's Mountain Stage. This particular show was at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Ashland Coal was a sponser of Mtn. Stage and their corporate headquarters was in Huntington. So most of the coal executives had front line seats.

The Mtn. stage format is usually about five artists and each gets to sing about five songs. His last song was Paradise and the looks on the coal exec. faces was priceless.

I have all of his music and he was among the best.

Hatch - He songs of simple notions and down home problems. His genius was in his disarming lyrics. They sucked you and before you knew it you were part of story.
